POKER STAR SKILLS

“Nobody is always a winner, and anybody who says he is, is either a liar or doesn’t play poker.” By Amarillo Slim

Poker is a game of massive opportunities, it can make you millionaire in a day from zero and history has many stories of multi-millionaires who have lost all what they had in the matter of days. Poker is a game of opportunities and skills, skill of using advantages you have in the game, no matter how trivial it is, and exploiting disadvantages your partner have. When someone wins a game, many factors have their role and contribution in winning. Luck, skill-set, cards, opponents, situation, venue and the game you are playing. Out of all the factors, most important one is skill.

Poker Star is a very broad term, and not just includes skill in the playing the game of poker. Poker is obviously played for money. We put some money in the hope of getting a much higher amount. In general, one who is able to retrieve his money and the money of his partners is the game winner. But in true terms, a good player is one who plays with a positive attitude. A player is one, who knows his limitations, his positive points in the game and his personality and his weaknesses too. You can never be a good player if you cannot control your emotions in public.

The strong point in poker is never to lose your temper, either with those you are playing with or, more particularly, with the Poker Star.net cards. There is no sympathy in poker. Always keep cool. If you lose your head you will lose all your chips. (William J. Florence)

Some of the skills, a player should master in are:

1. Be a good sportsman on the table.

2. Knows how to read the mind of opponents.

3. Making strategy, before he sits on the table and plan out tactics accordingly.

4. Making right value betting.

5. Play soberand follow all poker etiquettes.

6. Choose right game, right venue.

7. Play with a clean heart and cool mind. Here I want to quote Steven Wright: “Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died”

8. Jim Boyd, modern-day road gambler “I’ve always had confidence, but I never let my ego get to the point that I think I’m the superstar, because I know that ego has destroyed many a poker career”. Do not ever let your ego, to override your confidence. This is the most common reason, why players lose and lose everything they ever made.

9. You should have a mask like face, so that no-one can read your eyes or facial expressions. One of the biggest potential weakness of a player is, inability to hide his stress or happiness from his face or body-language.

In short, in order to be a good poker player, you have to have poker skill set. As Michael Gersitz said:

“It is better to make people think you are a bad poker player, then to play and remove all doubt. Don’t play to impress, play to win.”
